Octoprint and Octopi!

Was really easy. Like, download the image, plug in a rpi, and you’re good to go. Octopi works well too, the monitoring is a few seconds behind, but I’m attributing that to the fact that I’m using a rpi model b-which I got on sale, and not the new rpi 3. I’m saving that for my retro arcade.

Anyway, if you have a spare pi, and you’re into 3d printing and want it to be networked, use octoprint. There are clear directions on the website, and if you run into problems, there’s also a handy forum.

I tried compiling the code myself on an orangepi, and a different version of an rpi installation-one that came with a screen that I ordered off of aliexpress, and it didn’t work. I put close to 3 days into building both systems and there were errors in both cases. At which point, I just re-evaluated my needs and the fact that I probably was going to dump more time into the building process and just did the octopi image. It worked out better and I’ve been printing ever since, so practivality for the win.
