Microsoft’s 3D builder

When it comes to design, there’s plenty of options available. Blender is great but I’ve often found the interface to be quite tiresome to get into. Sketchup is easy to work with, probably the easiest, but it’s not free and it’s expensive to maintain.

3D builder is actually pretty simple to use, and if you want a quick print, I’ve found it works pretty well with a toolset that interfaces with what a typical 3D designer needs for prints. I have built a few containers so far, and while they’re not too much more than boxes with some holes, you can get it done quickly. The hollow tool is especially nice to build a box, hollow it to the thickness you need and then split it to pull it apart for separating sides. Once you figure out your distances it’s quick work.

In other words, we like it and you should give it a try. It’s free…
